I have a passion for printing photographs and displaying images of my children and family in my home. As a portrait photographer in the Vancouver, Washington metro area, I share this passion with my clients and educate them on the importance of having their photographs printed. Newborn portraits, milestones, prom, senior high school portraits - I encourage you to print your images to preserve your family's legacy.
When you think of your grandparents or maybe your favorite auntie, is there a certain photograph that comes to mind or perhaps a certain memory that a photograph brings you back to? Some of my favorite pictures are snapshots of my grandparents candidly smiling while they look at someone out of the frame. I treasure those pictures and the memories that they bring back to me. I am thankful for all of the photographs I have that document the lives of my loved ones because one day a photograph is all you have left of those that have passed on. So the question I leave you with is this: when was the last time you printed images off of that disk/USB drive, your camera or your cell phone?

One of my fondest memories is being able to pull out an album and see all of the photographs my grandmother would print of us growing up.

That is so special Melissa! My father-in-law kept separate photo albums for each of his kids and later for his grandchildren also. What a gift it is to be able to sit down and flip through all of the pages that document my husband's childhood!

I have been obsessed with having magnets printed of my favorite photos - they adorn my filing cabinet in my office and on our fridge at home. I have been making albums online and having hard cover books printed when they are full! I was very lucky in that my Mom made scrapbooks for each of us kids from birth to high school graduation and I hope to do half as much as she did for my daughter.

I love the idea of printing magnets! You are so luck to have scrapbooks of your entire childhood - kudos to your mama! Since your mom valued preserving photographs, she has passed that on to you and your family legacy continues to be preserved for your daughter and future generations. This is a great example of the importance of a printing photographs!

So happy to see what I hope is a return to prints. It seems like more and more photographers are seeing the value in printing portraits for their clients, and I hope this is the beginning of a new era in photography. Fantastic blog post!

Thank you Kathleen! Yes, I think as we educate people on the importance of printing portraits, we will see more and more digital portraits being printed and enjoyed rather than sitting on a temporary storage device that has an expiration date.

When we print our portraits, we are preserving our family legacy. I think we often forget how much our own children enjoy seeing themselves in photographs. My minis love to sit and flip through photo albums and I'm proud that they will each have something tangible to hold in their hands when they are older.

This is so very true. I still have CDs from my baby showers and our first family session that have never been touched other than to put them on Facebook. Honestly I think I've lost them, which is really disappointing. But all of the art in recent years that I've had printed instead of saving in a CD, is on my walls, appreciated every day. It's an important lesson.

Melissa, I think this has happened to a lot of us with digital photos, but I'm so happy to hear that you are printing and enjoying your portraits by displaying them in your home! This is the very reason I strive to educate my clients on the importance of printing their images and why I am so passionate about printed portraits.
